Alder Tree Is Closing
Sadly we have now made the decision that Alder Tree cannot continue in September 2023 in its current form. This is mainly because we have too few children currently signed up to be financially viable. Also it appears that we would have to change our offering in order to operate legally without registration as a School.
A group of parents have now just started looking at whether an alternative provision can be developed for September, which would be financially viable and legally compliant. It’s likely that this will be some sort of hybrid offering, aimed at families who are looking at combining home education with part time formal education.

Welcome to
ALDER TREE
a Steiner Waldorf Inspired Home Education Centre
The Co-creative Alder Tree Elective Education Project has been established to meet the needs of families in West Berkshire and adjacent areas who have decided to home-educate their children and want to provide them with opportunities to experience Steiner education in a collaborative home education community.
Activities are provided primarily for members of the project. This takes the form of a regular group of children of similar ages working with a main teacher and a range of curriculum activities decided upon collectively and paid for equally by parents.
This initiative is being developed by a group of teachers, parents and others from Alder Bridge Steiner-Waldorf School, which sadly closed down in December 2022. We now have a lease for use of the classroom building previously used by Alder Bridge at Aldermaston Wharf. We have set up up a Community Interest Company to run the project. We opened our doors as planned on January 10th 2023 to 16 former pupils from Alder Bridge, and we are now offering tuition 3 days a week.
We are receiving much interest from local families who are home educating, and hope that many new children will be joining us soon.
